Buying Local Produce Tips

Food's carbon footrint, or foodprint, is the greenhouse gas emissions produced by growing, rearing, farming, processing, transporting, storing, cooking and disposing of the food you eat. It burns less carbon to transport food from a local farm/market to your table than it does from overseas.

If you live on the coast, choose a local, wild fish. If you are inland, try hormone-free, free range or organic beef and poultry. Changing the foods you eat can have a big impact on your carbon footprint. And reduce pollution, preserve the environment and slow global warming. Many of these changes will also save you money, improve your health and even keep you fit!

Actions:
  1. Grow your own fruits and vegetables
